The Story of Adeline Ruth Chyna Baker

In the spring of 2014 Jason and I decided that once again God was directing us to adopt again. At the time, we were considering adopting a sibling set of 5 from the Philippians. We want to spend our life serving the Lord and as crazy as the idea of 5 more children sounded, Jason and I were committed to doing whatever we felt God was leading us to do. After doing some research and finding out these children were going to be adopted by another family, we decided to sign on with Christian Adoption Consultants. There were several reasons why we chose CAC but one was the fact that our family size would not prohibit us from being chosen by a birth mom. (This has been an issue in the past) We also really liked the model that CAC has in working with several agencies. This allows adoptive families exposure to more situations. Dawn and Jason Wright were our consultants and we really loved working with them because they are very passionate about adoption and have several children. They understand the ups and downs of adoption and encourage families that God is involved in the whole adoption process, even when it is emotionally difficult. Our paperwork was done in July 2014 and immediately we started being presented to several situations. There were days, after not being selected that we naturally felt discouraged. However, we serve a great God and He is faithful in finishing what He starts. We surrendered our plans to Him. The week before we were selected by our baby's birthmother, we found out that the sibling set that we had first considered in the Philippians had not been adopted. We were shocked and confused as to what we should do. We had been presented to many situations and not been chosen and wondered if we should recalculate and begin an international adoption. We were praying fervently and asking God to give us direction, wisdom, and clear vision. Moments before we started the paperwork with the international agency, we were called and told that a birthmom that we had wanted to be presented to, 2 weeks prior (she had been put on hold) was ready to look at profiles. Did we want to be presented? We said "Yes" and 24 hours later were told that we had been chosen. The next week was a whirlwind as the baby's due date was in the next couple of weeks. On November 1, we got a phone call, that our precious baby girl had been born. We boarded a plane the next day to Detroit, Michigan. The night that we arrived was eventful. We stopped by Walmart to get some baby supplies and while we were in there, our rental car was broken into. Jason's luggage and laptop were stolen and the back passenger window was broken. After more shopping (for clothes for Jason), we headed back to the airport to get a different rental car. The next morning, we got to go to the hospital to meet Adeline. There are no words to describe the joy of meeting the precious baby that God hand selected for us. We are in love with this sweet bundle. We have had the wonderful opportunity of spending time at the hospital with the birth parents and Adeline's great aunt. We have had 2 dinner dates with her birth parents and 4 out of 5 biological brothers. We are eternally grateful that they chose life for her and humbled that they selected us to raise her. The relationship that we have formed with them is just another gift that God has given to us in this journey. We are currently still in Michigan waiting California approval to travel back home. We are getting anxious as we have been in Michigan for 14 days and desperately miss our other 5 kids. We are so excited for our reunion and for them to meet Adeline.
