Spurgeon Week at The Master's College
Tommy was 1 out of 2 selected to preach for Spurgeon Week at The Masters College. This was a huge honor as many of the students are majoring in some sort of ministry and only 2 could be chosen for the chapels. It's hard to explain the joy and pride we felt watching him preach. God has protected him and had His hand on Tommy's life and we can't wait to see how he will be used in the future. He did such an amazing job!
Maui Trip
Jason and I had the opportunity to spend a few days in Maui. Home Instead had its leadership conference there and we had many opportunities for excursions and relaxation. Two of the highlights of the trip were a bike ride down a mountain and a kayak and snorkeling tour to see "turtles". The kayak trip turned into a whale watching trip and we had a 2000 pound Humpback whale surface just 20 yards from us. Initially, Jason and I felt like we were in a Jaws movie as the whale went right under our kayak. We were like a tiny cracker in comparison to his enormous body. The bike ride was unique also in that we were on a 2 lane mountain rode with no bike lane. We were dropped off with our bikes at about 7,000 feet and then on our own until we reached the town where our tour began. I had a death grip on my handlebars. Jason and I went to a Luau, ate some delicious foods, went on a Sunset Cruise and just enjoyed being together.
Heart Surgery for Grandma Jeanne!!!
In February, Jeanne received shocking news that she would need open heart surgery to replace her Aortic Valve. Jeanne has been an avid exerciser and eaten healthy throughout the years and has more energy that anyone I know. Needless to say, we were all so surprised and concerned. Open Heart Surgery is intense and she handled the recovery so well. We love her so much and are so thankful that the surgery was successful and that they caught the problem in time before she had a heart attack.
Glasses!!
The day has finally come and I officially need glasses. There have been so many times when I was convinced that I needed them, only to be told that my eyes were perfect and to try eye drops. With all the sarcastic comments from my family over the years, I attended this appointment and was sure that I would not need them. Selah and Providence also had their eyes checked and Providence does not need glasses anymore but Selah does. So Selah and I got to pick our glasses out. I have to say, it isn't as exciting as I thought. I'm having a hard time remembering to wear them.
